Book Recommendation #7
After managing to actually have a week off and get away with the fam for a few days, it’s great to be back in the studio this week, where I have a few new recording projects and lots of drummers booked in for lessons which is ace!

This book is another one I have had since pretty much the beginning, and although I don’t really ‘practice’ what is in it, I find it a great teaching tool for developing an awareness of different rhythms and sticking applications.
•
In contradiction to the cover, I feel this book doesn’t really have anything to do with Buddy Rich (others may disagree!), and the exercises are more aimed at improving sight reading and understanding how rhythms are written down. As far as I know, Buddy didn’t read…so I think this is mainly a ploy to get people to buy the book in the hope they sound more like B.R, but I could be wrong??

I maybe totally missing the point, and probably just never went deep enough into the book, but I definitely find it a great teaching tool that is perfect for teaching any musician how to understand the way rhythms are split up within a bar in a helpful and progressive way that increases in complexity through the book. I’ll be using it with pupils this week for sure!
