Once a drummer, always a drummer!
Thanks to the wonderful work of Live Music Now I get the opportunities like this!

Getting a haircut is not the only thing to be getting excited about…
From Monday 12/04 I’m so pleased to say that my studio will be back open to private pupils!

Back Chat Play
Calling all young musicians! Back Chat Brass have launched a new play along series - BACK CHAT PLAY.
A Musician's Life in Pandemic
On March 4th 2020, I was sat on a plane on the way to Manilla, Philippines, to play for a wedding with my band Back Chat Brass. We were all looking forward to a few days away, having just completed two busy months of education work, where we had been working with children in Darlington primary schools.
When your pupils turn pro…
By far one of the best things as a drum teacher is seeing your pupils turn pro!
Book Recommendation #7
This book is another one I have had since pretty much the beginning, and although I don’t really ‘practice’ what is in it, I find it a great teaching tool for developing an awareness of different rhythms and sticking applications.
Book Recommendation #6
The first-ever technique focussed book I got, Joe Morello’s ‘Master Studies’
Book Recommendation #5
Louis Bellson making a second appearance, with his ‘Odd Time Reading Text’
September Trial Lessons
It’s been such a fun month for me in the studio, as I’ve been able to welcome back one-to-one pupils and also invite some new drummers to come and try out lessons. It’s made me realise how much I’ve missed teaching, and how much I enjoy talking about drumming and music with pupils who are keen to improve and learn.
(Book) Recommendation #4
Ok…so it’s not a book, granted! However this warmup by Tommy Igoe has been something I have done every day as soon as I have picked up my sticks since the start of lockdown, so I have to include it!! It’s a really nicely structured routine, and the DVD is well worth the investment.
Book Recommendation #3
Ok, so book number 3 is an absolute classic that was introduced to me by Neil Bullock when I studied with him (a few years ago now!!). It’s George Lawrence Stone’s ‘Stick Control’.
Studio is back open for teaching!
I’m excited to say that from September my studio will be open again for private pupils!
Calvin Travers Track
Leeds guitarist Calvin Travers has some new drum-less tracks out. He got in touch with me to give some of his tracks a trial run, and they are a lot of fun!
Book Recommendation #2
Ok, the second book I’ve been delving into during lockdown is Louis Bellson’s Modern Reading Text In 4/4.
